The “Emmanuel” Charitable Foundation has received a Ford Tourneo Grand Connect vehicle for use. This is a wonderful chance for our beneficiaries — children and adults with musculoskeletal disorders — to become more mobile. However, it is currently a standard production vehicle, not adapted for transporting people in wheelchairs or in a lying position.
In order for the vehicle to serve its primary purpose — the safe and dignified transportation of those who cannot move independently — we need to carry out a full professional conversion.
What exactly are we raising funds for?
We turned to the leading specialists at the German REHA mobil Berlin atelier, who developed an individual adaptation project. The cost of professional reconstruction is €12,943.63.
This amount covers the full cycle of work and certification:
Creation of a “low floor” (Heckausschnitt): full reconstruction of the rear body part to increase interior space (up to 145 cm in height).
Easy-Flex Universal Ramp: a special aluminum construction that allows a wheelchair to be easily loaded.
Professional fixation system: a 4-point wheelchair restraint system and a special 3-point seat belt for the passenger.
Interior flexibility: installation of additional swivel seats, allowing the vehicle to be used both for wheelchair transport and as a 6-7 seater minivan for groups of children.
Technical adaptation: replacement of the fuel tank with a special one (made of stainless steel) and relocation of the exhaust system to ensure passenger safety.
TÜV Certification: obtaining all permits that guarantee the highest level of safety according to European standards.
Why is this important?
For a child who cannot walk or a person in a lying position, every trip to the hospital, for rehabilitation, or to a social event is a huge challenge. Ordinary transport often makes such trips traumatic or impossible. A specialized vehicle is not a luxury; it is a bridge between isolation and a full life.
